Producing a Panorama

I use mostly digital photography in my business, which is mostly commercial and public relations. My personal passion over the years has been making panoramic photographs. I have used many types of panoramic cameras but am now stitching most of my pans. Folks have asked how this picture was done, since I shot the photos on film years before digital was even thought of.

This panorama was produced from 3 pictures taken in Kenya, Africa. The short tutorial that follows explains how the image was put together.

Three images were shot individually, not as overlapped images to be stitched together, then were put together in Photoshop.

The images were matched with image adjust> match color and then placed on a new file in Photoshop, larger than the combined images.

Image # 2 is the same image as # 3, which was flipped horizontally. Also in # 2 the pregnant Zebra was reduced and the tail changed slightly as was the tail in # 3 to appear somewhat different. The 4 images were then manually blended with the clone stamp.

The entire collage was then cropped to include a portion of the blank file to provide room for the next step.

I then used a program to add water reflection in this case, Flaming Pear Flood. The water line was then blended and darkened to appear as a more natural muddy edge.

The last step was to convert to black and white, which I felt made this image more interesting. I then added a double matt using Photoshop and the finished print and matt measured 10 x 36 inches.
