Uganda boasts an extraordinary diversity of habitats, scenery, and wildlife species. In Budongo Forest, researchers have studied the 78 chimpanzees that have made up the Sonso community for more than 20 years. But human settlement, increased logging, poaching, and habitat fragmentation mean the future for the Sonso group is uncertain. By taking photographs of these chimpanzees, my hope is that people will see what changes need to take place in the forest for the species to survive. The Wildlife Conservation Society and partners are working to safeguard the population and their forest home, and to develop regional action plans for the conservation of chimpanzees across their range.
